Hello love,
A quick note about a few things!
TOFINO
The sold out shows this weekend in Tofino, BC have been moved to the Tofino Legion and we’ve released a few extra tickets! You can grab some HERE.
EDMONTON
I’ll be playing a pair of intimate solo shows in Edmonton this December. Expect Christmas songs and requests and a generally informal hang in a small cozy theatre. ALSO - with your ticket, you’ll also gain access to the Edmonton Christmas Market. Tickets are already getting scarce and are available HERE.
BOOK RECS
Here are some books that are worth reading while the world burns.
1. Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver
It’s a hefty novel but I couldn’t put it down. Her embodiment of young Damon (“Demon”) is masterful. You just believe it. It is a deeply sad, hilarious and scathing deconstruction of poverty in Appalachia. I didn’t realize until afterward that it was an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield, which I have now decided to finally read.
This book has helped me make sense of the recent election. As misguided as the movement may be, poor white Americans just needed somebody to give a shit. Trump is a firehose of incendiary hateful lies, but at least he looked disenfranchised folks in the eye and addressed them directly.
I felt so sad after finishing this book that I had to let go of my pal Demon. What a character. Cannot recommend enough.
2. Heartbreaker by Claudia Dey
A while ago, I recommended Claudia’s novel Daughter, which absolutely floored me. This is actually an older piece of Claudia’s work, and is similarly genius. She is a world builder, and sometimes you have to let go of understanding every sentence and just allow the cadence of it to wash over you. She pulls you into a place of super-fiction. An alternate reality that feels so vivid and real. I loved this book. It is… beautifully heartbreaking.
Thank you for your eyes and your ears.

Demon Copperhead is one of my favorite books of the last decade - backstory for those who haven't heard it - Kingsolver wrote it because she was pissed at JD Vance's victim-blaming in "Hillbilly Elegy".
