Hello love,
I’ve known Felix Cartal for a few years. He’s a multi-platinum selling artist, but he’s also a genius remixer. There’s always a sense of whimsy in his work, and he doesn’t take himself too seriously, which I appreciate. Like, for instance, his piano house anthem remix of the corn song, or his take on the Euphoria soundtrack.
Admittedly, I know almost nothing about the dance/DJ music world. My music is largely so un-danceable that when people DO dance to it, I consider it an act of charity.
I asked Felix if he’d remix my song Just Know It and he came through! It feels like a magic-hour early evening drive to somewhere you’re excited to end up. Felix has been doing “sunset mixes” (chill re-imaginings) of his own songs for a while now, and this is the first one he’s made for another artist.
Also, huge thanks to visual artist Jean Paul Langlois for dreaming up the artwork - the crows are in reference to the lyric “Two birds and one stone, once cast, once thrown - well you can’t un-throw it.”
The track is out on all streaming platforms, etc - please dig in and vibe the eff out.
I’m also happy to report that my old Taylor guitar (the one on which I wrote all of Postcards & Daydreaming and Nice, Nice, Very Nice and played my first few hundred gigs) has found a new home. My treasured guitar now belongs to Finn (pictured above). I hope he thrashes the heck out of it on some stages just like I did. His parents surprised him with the gift on Christmas morning.
Back in November, I put the guitar up for auction. I was feeling hopeless and furious about the overturning of Roe v Wade. I’ve read the dystopian novels. Removing the autonomy and reproductive rights of women is at the heart of each one. These puritanical theocratic ideologues have become the devil they so publicly hate.
I am thrilled to report that this guitar raised $5,720.75 USD ($7,801.81 CAD) for the National Network of Abortion Funds (a non-profit that “builds power with members to remove financial and logistical barriers to abortion access by centering people who have abortions and organizing at the intersections of racial, economic, and reproductive justice.”). Thank you to all 17 bidders who participated in the auction - there were a total of 61 bids.
Alright, that’s all from me for the moment. We’ll have some big touring announcements coming up in the next bit!
Thank you for your eyes and your ears.
x
Dan
