This was my first show with The Lumineers, and my first experience on tour with a band way up there in the major leagues.
When I tour Canada, we typically have 3 crew alongside the band. The Lumineers had about 40 in Europe. When they tour in North America (where the venues are larger), it’s even more expansive: up to 80-100 people. Their operation is absolutely massive and incredibly well run. And they put on a truly wonderful show for their fans. They’ve figured out how to basically make sure that something exciting is happening for the entire show.
I learned a lot from this first show, and though it was a blast, I think that the following ones were a stronger showing from me. I was determined to be the easiest support act The Lumineers had ever had, and I was scared to go overtime on my 30 minute allotment. I tried to fit in too many songs, and as such, I was rushed between songs. It was hard to relax because I was up against the clock. For the following four shows, I played 6 songs instead of 7, and I felt much more ease in connecting with the audiences.
