Hello love,
I’ve been quiet online, in the throngs of summer family trips. But you should know about this song How About Mine?. I wrote it with my dear pal Jenn Grant. It speaks to the shared commonalities of our separate marriages - how they began and how they’ve evolved. It’s about long love.
We also accidentally made the hottest music video of all time, which you can watch above.
After about FIVE YEARS of waiting, the soundtrack for the Netflix series HILDA is finally available. I adore this adaptation from the graphic novels and it was an honour to work on this show. I was asked to pitch an idea for the main theme song. They ended up opting for Grimes’ submission (understandable) but asked me to score the rest of the first season.
Bella Ramsay (of Game of Thrones & The Last Of Us) voices Hilda and she’s perfect. My initial pitch for the main theme ended up being the End Credits Theme at the end of each episode.
I bled and sweat over episodes 1 & 2 of the series, which combined are an absolute masterpiece of storytelling. They work together like a short film. I really suggest you watch them via Netflix.
For those first two magical episodes, I had lots of time and a long creative leash to explore my abundant ideas. After scoring a few more episodes, it became clear that I was not the right person to get into the trenches with an animated series. The show got more episodic and turnkey, and the production timelines got tighter. I moved on to working on More or Less and they brought in another composer to finish off the season. But I am SO PROUD of my work on this series. I scored four episodes of the first season and wrote the “Sparrow Scouts Forever” song.
More shows are selling out and getting low for the upcoming Going Somewhere tour. Grab your tix now and spread the word to your peeeeeps!
Looks like I’ll also be returning to Europe early next year. More on that soon so do keep an eye out.
Thank you for your eyes and your ears.
