Hello love,
I took this photo on a bike ride. It's the most sane part of my day. My kids are driving us crazy and it seems like they stop talking for a few minutes if we're whizzing around our neighbourhood. The weather in Vancouver has been stunning and these early evening cruises provide a much needed peace. But everything still feels upside down, doesn't it? BEHOLD MY ART PHOTO. Am I starting to lose it? Yes, I am.
You may already be aware that I've been playing interactive online shows every Saturday. I'm incredibly proud to say that over the past 4 weeks, we've raised a whopping $10,871.59 for a variety of charities including The Greater Vancouver Food Bank, Shelter Movers, Unison Benevolent Fund & Tri-Cities Transitions Society.
There's something vitally rewarding about these shows. I've done the "live-streaming" thing. It's okay. Feels like you're at the airport busking to a million people. These Side Door shows are impromptu communities. I always feel lifted afterward. It's like playing in a focused club to people who want to be there. Last week, the wonderful Charlotte Cornfield was my surprise guest!

I hope that all artists out there know that they can play an online Side Door show. It's interactive. You can see the audience. The audience can see each other. Dancing. Smiles. Dogs. Kids. And also tears, sometimes. It's a lot. But it feels very real.
I've been really thrilled to donate the proceeds over the past month. That said, I recently read a report that predicts that the live concert business may not kick into gear until fall of 2021. I have to admit that this possibility has shaken my confidence a bit, and I think that after this week, I'll have to start keeping the proceeds. I just have no idea when I'll be able to properly go on tour again, and my kids would literally eat a bag of apples every day if we let them.
Below are heaps of shows that aren't technically cancelled, but... ya know... We'll see. Many of these have been rescheduled already. They might need to be rescheduled again. It's all up in the air. But can you imagine how special it will be to go to concerts again? Theatre? Hockey games?
Distance makes the heart grow fonder...
